Pastors' Weekly Update - June 2, 2020

Pastors’ Weekly Update – June 2, 2020
A Prayer for our County
Heavenly Father, we come into Your presence with heavy hearts during this time of civil unrest and violence.  Give us hearts opposed to racism.   Help us to see one another’s lives as You see them—as valuable and irreplaceable.  We ask you to bring an end to the rioting and violence in our land. Let the innocent receive mercy and the guilty be brought to justice.  Remind us of Your commands regarding our speech, that the words of all people may bring peace and healing.  Give our community leaders and our law enforcement wisdom to perform their duties faithfully.  Above all, we ask You, through the working of the Holy Spirit, to bring the peace of Christ to all people.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Reopening for In-Person Worship this Sunday, June 7!
It’s finally time!  This Sunday we will begin  in-person worship services, limited to 134 people per service.  Each week, we’ll have services
  • Sundays at 8:30am and 10:00am
  • Mondays at 6:30 pm.
Please see below for more information on in-person worship at Holy Cross.
4 Ways to Worship at Holy Cross
  • You can attend live Sunday mornings at 8:30am and 10:00am or Monday evenings at 6:30pm.
If you are at higher risk due to age or health conditions, we encourage you to continue to worship and hear God’s Word from the safety of home. We also ask that you stay home if you are sick or have been exposed to someone who is sick.
If You Attend Live In-Person Services:
Before you come to Holy Cross
According to Public Health Madison and Dane County, the maximum number of people allowed in the sanctuary is 134. Because of this an electronic sign up will be sent out. The sign up will be from ‘Sign Up Genius’. Please watch for this electronic sign-up to arrive in your inbox sometime Tuesday, June 2.  Please sign up for the service that you will attend and the number of people that will be coming with you. Please consider coming to the 6:30pm Monday night service or the 10:00am Sunday morning, as generally those services have fewer in attendance. If you need to sign up by phone, call 608-249-3101 between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00am Monday through Thursday or Friday between 8:00am and noon.
When you arrive at Holy Cross
Please park in the west parking lot with the portico entrance (on the ELC side). The east parking lot will be coned off.
When you enter the building
  • The doors will be propped open, so that you won’t have to touch the door handle. Also hand sanitizer stations will be positioned in the narthex.
  • Because safety is one of the goals of the Elders, out of love for our Brothers and Sisters in Christ a mask will be required. Please bring your own mask for worship. We will provide a mask if you don’t have one, but they are costly, so please remember to bring your own to keep expenses down.
  • Attendees should not touch each other (for example, do not shake hands or hug). Attendees who do not live together should stay at least six feet apart at all times.
  • Individuals living in the same household should stay together as much as possible.
  • Don’t loiter in the narthex, but go directly into the sanctuary and sit down, filling up the church starting in the front and then filling in the church toward the back.
  • Every other pew will be blocked off to spread out congregants.
  • We encourage you not to use the bathroom if you don’t have to. This will prevent unnecessary disinfecting of 'touch points' in the bathroom. If you need to use the bathroom, obviously you may.
During the worship service
This will be a touchless service. There won’t be any bulletins or hymnbooks; everything for the service will be up on the TV screens.
The service will be 45 minutes or less.
At least for the first few weeks, there won’t be any singing as this may greatly increase the spread of the virus.
When you leave the service
The offering will be taken at the door as you leave.
After the service we encourage fellowship to take place outside in the parking lot. This will allow for disinfecting and preparing for the next service to begin.
Annual Voters Meeting – Sunday, June 7
The Annual Voters Meeting will be between services on Sunday, June 7 at 9:30 am in the gymnasium. Please enter the gymnasium through the gym doors, back by the ELC playground. There will not be access to the gym through the building. Thanks for your understanding. The Voters will be asked to approve the 2020-2021 budget and elect officers, board and committee members. If you would like a copy of the budget, please email Jenny Patten at jpatten@holycrossmadison.org .
Kids Crossing Back in Session
Kids Crossing is back in session!  It’s wonderful to have young, happy faces back in the building learning about Jesus!  Thanks to our Kids Crossing staff for going the extra mile to meet all of the important hygiene, cleaning and protective measures necessary during this unique time.

Kindergarten Screening
News from Mrs.Starkenburg, Kindergarten Teacher:
I will be conducting kindergarten screening for all students enrolled in Holy Cross Kindergarten. This screening will serve several purposes.
  1. It lets your child and I interact with each other.
  2. It gives me a baseline report on where your child excels and where he or she needs some guidance.
  3. It helps me map out my curriculum for the beginning of our school year.
The screening dates will take place starting on June 3rd. There will be varied times available (please see schedule below). Our screening will take place outside under the church portico and it will take 45 to 60 minutes. I will take the necessary cleaning precautions in between the sessions and I will keep my distance. I will do the screening with your child and then we can meet and discuss the results.  Please email me as to your choice on the schedule at pstarkenburg@holycrossmadison.org.   If your child is attending our Summer Adventures Program, I will get in touch with the teacher to set up a time to screen your child and we will set up a different time to meet and discuss the results. I can be flexible on meeting at a time when you are done with work.   If this time in June does not work for you, please let me know what does work and we will make a different arrangement.   I look forward to working with each of you!
Kindergarten Screening Times
