SPECIAL OFFERING

Our delegates and pastors at synod convention this summer set a synod congregational budget of $790,000 for our ELS missions and ministries for 2021. In addition, our synod Board of Trustees earmarked all gifts over $760,000 to help with our Bethany Lutheran College’s operating budget.  If you would like to participate in this special offering, at the Welcome Center, please find the envelope provided for this special offering to the ELS and its missions. Write your check to  Holy Cross and designate it for the synod’s budget.  May all our gifts be in accord with our Lord’s abundant blessings to us!  Thank you!

Easy Way to Donate to Holy Cross Lutheran Church and School

If you are over 72 and have an IRA, you are required tomust take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from that IRA. The amount you receive from the RMD could affect the amount of taxes you have to pay. However, IRS regulations allow you to make a Qualified Charitable Donation (QCD) directly from your IRA to nonprofits and charitable organizations. Holy Cross Lutheran Church and School are eligible to receive QCD’s. Please note, you cannot receive the RMD and forward it to your charitable organization. The funds must go directly from your IRA to your selected charitable organization. Need more information, please talk with your accountant or your IRA financial representative. Directing your RMD to Holy Cross can help support the work of the church and school.

Celebrating 50 years of Christian Education at Holy Cross

Save the Date!

On the weekend of April 23rd and 24th, 2022, Holy Cross Lutheran School will be celebrating 50 years of Christian Education. In January of 2022, look for more information to come regarding the event on that Saturday evening and the worship service on Sunday morning. We will focus our attention on the students and teachers of the past and also look to the future. In John 21: 15, Jesus said, 'Feed my lambs'. We want to help the Lord's lambs and sheep to walk hand in hand with Him in this life and on into eternal life.

Thank You!

Dear friends in Christ,

Just a few lines to thank all of you for the cards and get well wishes during my days in the hospital, Rehab and not at Assisted Living. I can’t begin to tell  you how much they meant to me. Especially receiving the Lord’s Supper at my apt. I have such wonderful Pastors and friends at Holy Cross. Thanks again for remembering me in your prayers.

Adeline Olson

Thanks to Polly!

Polly Browne grew up at Holy Cross and attended Holy Cross Lutheran School.  She went on to be a Lutheran Elementary School teacher in our synod and then went on to become a professor in the Education Department of Bethany Lutheran College where she taught students how to become teachers.  The Lord called Polly home to heaven nearly a year ago.  Recently, Holy Cross was informed that we were named in Polly's estate and subsequently, Holy Cross received a gift of $35,000 from Polly's estate.  Thank you to Polly for remembering her childhood church and school in her estate planning... and especially, thanks to the Lord for this wonderful blessing to our congregation!

Multi-Congregational Bible Class

The Arab-Israeli Conflict: It seems like every few years fighting breaks out between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Someone kills someone, someone shells someone, or someone threatens someone, and soon Israelis and Arabs are attacking each other. It is easy to ask why they don’t just compromise and live peacefully together. In addition to the usual human greed and intransigence, there are deep religious problems between the Arabs and the Israelis that go back almost 4,000 years. To make sense out of what you see and hear in the news, one needs an understanding of the underlying reasons for this strife.

As part of this year’s Multi-Congregation Bible Class Series, Dr. Arthur Eggert will examine the roots of the Arab-Israeli conflict and why it has become an endless struggle. In this four-session course he will explain the religious development of modern Judaism and Islam, and how historical issues have created unresolvable problems. Dr. Arthur Eggert is an Emeritus UW-Madison Professor and a WELS author. The classes will meet at Peace in Sun Prairie at 6:30 pm on Thursdays beginning January 6 and at Eastside in Madison at 6:30 pm Sundays beginning January 9. (You can switch between sites if you like.) There is no book for the course, but there will be reading assignments from the Bible and the Internet.

To sign up or get more information, email church.office@peacewels.org.
