Multi-Congregational Bible Class
This year’s multi-congregational Bible class series is entitled “Why This Conflict?” and will cover important conflicts in which Lutherans have a strong interest. The first course of this series is “The Formula of Concord,” which will be a discussion of the development and meaning of this key Lutheran confession. In fact, it was this confession that saved the Lutheran church from falling apart after Luther’s death. It is a confession that all Lutherans claim to be willing to stake their lives to defend. The course will be taught at two sites, Eastside Lutheran in Madison and Peace Lutheran Church in Sun Prairie, and attendees can switch between the sites to fit their schedules. The presenters will be Pastor Peter Schlicht of Eastside and Dr. Arthur Eggert of Peace. All sessions will run from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Classes at Peace are on Thursdays and will start on September 9. Those at Eastside are on Sundays and will start on September 12. Reading assignments for the course will be from the Formula of Concord. Attendees will need to purchase or have access to either the book The Formula of Concord or the book Concordia: The Lutheran Confessions Reader’s Edition. These can be ordered individually from CPH or can be signed up for when registering for the course. To register, email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com or call 608-837-5346 (Peace) or 608-244-3045 (Eastside). Please indicate your name, your email address, how many will be attending, and whether you need a book. Please register by September 1 to permit the ordering of books and the preparation of materials. The course will be 12 weeks long and finish the first week in Advent. Except for the books, there is no cost for attending this class.
