Women’s Mission Rally October 21
At this time of the year, there seems to be more activities than time to do them. Take a five-minute break and “take it to the Lord in prayer” and things will go better. Also plan to take in the Mission Rally in your circuit. We in America have been so richly blessed with not only earthly goods, but in many cases with many opportunities to hear the gospel message. Let us work together to help share that message with those not only in our country, but in our foreign missions around the world. So, “with the Lord’s help, let’s get those jobs done!”
The Women’s Mission Rally  will be held on Saturday, October 21 from 9 am to 3 pm at Our Saviour’s Lutheran, Madison, WI. Signup sheet to attend is posted on the Welcome Center counter.
Please sign up by September 25.  Donations for Missions can be given to Diane Baxter or Joan Behr and are due by the same date. Reminder that Missions are for women and men.  All are encouraged to attend.

Association of Church Musicians Presentation
On Saturday, October 14 at 9:00 a.m., Jim Baxter, will present a program about the logistics in procuring and moving an existing pipe organ to a new location and acoustics for worship spaces at Holy Cross Lutheran Church (734 Holy Cross Way, Madison, WI 53704). Jim is an ACM board member and Organist/Choir Director at Holy Cross Lutheran.
Holy Cross Lutheran procured a 1994 Holtkamp organ from Brown Memorial Church in Baltimore, Maryland in 2018. Jim will walk us through and explain how this organ was rehomed to Holy Cross’ newly built worship space and what acoustical considerations and enhancements were made to allow the organ to effectively speak and make music in the space.
Jared Stellmacher, ACM Vice-President and Director of Worship and Music at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Madison/Verona, will demonstrate the Holtkamp instrument performing hymns and literature including Piece Heroique (Cesar Franck), Now Thank We All Our God (Sigfrid Karg-Elert), Variations on American (Charles Ives), and Prelude and Fugue in E-flat Major (St. Anne), J.S. Bach.

Thank You From the Tweit’s
Dear Holy Cross Family,
"I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:3-6
Bernt and I want to thank you for the tremendous outpouring of love and support we've received from you in response to my cancer recurrence. We are deeply moved and humbled by your care and concern for us and our family. Your prayers are being heard by our heavenly Father and truly felt by us as currently, I am doing remarkably well with minimal side effects from my medications. We won't know for a while yet how my cancer is responding to my treatments but are hoping the drugs are working.
We pray for and love you all!
Katie and Bernt Tweit

Bethany Seminary Begins a New Academic Year 2023–2024
Bethany Lutheran Theological Seminary began the new academic year on August 21, 2023 with an opening service at Good Shepherd Chapel. For the opening service, President Hartwig preached on 2 Corinthians 5:18–21, explaining that through His work of reconciliation, Jesus has healed the relationship between God and man. Jesus faced God’s anger over our sins in our place. The Father is fully satisfied by the life and death of Jesus. We are forgiven. God loves us. We are reconciled to God. The heart of pastoral work is bringing this message of reconciliation to others. This is at the same time simple work and complex. It is simple because pastors are only telling others of what they have experienced themselves—reconciliation with God through Jesus. It is complex because people have different experiences and life is hard. It can be difficult to know just the right thing to say to the individual. God promises to use pastors to be His ambassadors and will bless their efforts in His stead.
The teaching staff for the seminary this semester is as follows: Timothy Hartwig, Brian Klebig, Nicholas Proksch, and Timothy Schmeling. Professor Timothy Hartwig is teaching courses in homiletics; Professor Brian Klebig is teaching communication; Professor Nicholas Proksch is teaching in the areas of New Testament, evangelism, homiletics, and hermeneutics; and Professor Timothy Schmeling is teaching church history, symbolics, and homiletics. The seminary enrollment this year numbers ten. There are two vicars, three seniors, two middlers, and three juniors. The vicars are Joel Hansen at Bloomington Living Hope Lutheran Parish (WELS) in Bloomington, Minnesota, and Matthew Lehne at Jerico, Saude, and Redeemer Lutheran Churches in New Hampton/Lawler, Iowa.

October 2023 Twice is Nice News
Shop:
Fall brings sweater weather and seasonal home décor opportunities, and Twice is Nice can help you with that. We know some of you are ready and waiting for our annual Christmas WOW, when all things Christmas (except trees) will be on the sales floor Monday, October 9, at 10 am! We’re easy-to-find and open Mondays-Saturdays from 10-4 PM: just a minute or so east on the Hwy 18 exit off the 26 bypass at 907 W. Racine St., next to the Jefferson Piggly Wiggly.

Volunteer: Toward this goal, the weekend of October 7-8 is Christmas changeover. We hope to see old and new faces who will help us get a higher than ever amount of Christmas inventory on the floor—LLHS parents and teens, grandparents, friends, congregational groups—you’re all needed! Beginning 4 pm on Saturday, Oct. 7, the shelves get stripped of merchandise and washed, several hours of work for many hands. Then starting at 10 am on Sunday, Oct. 10, we welcome help to merchandise Christmas items—an all-day, come-when-you-can for as long as you can. Lunch will be provided Sunday. Enter via the back-donation doors either day. Another immediate need we have is for Friday cashiers; bagging help will be critical during the Christmas ornament-wrapping season! Call the store at 920-674-6868 during open hours or email manager@twiceisnice.shop to let Megan know you plan to help. THANK YOU!
